Day Therapy Centres

Day Therapy Centres offer physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy, podiatry and other therapy services to frail aged people who are living in the community or who are residents of Australian Government-funded aged care homes. The aim of the program is to assist people to either maintain or recover a level of independence, which will allow them to remain either in the community or in low level care.

Days of grace

Income-tested fees cannot be charged for the first 28 days (including pre-entry leave days) from the date of permanent entry to an aged care home. These days are known as Days of Grace.

Dementia is the term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses, which cause a progressive decline in the ability to remember, to think, and to learn. There are many types of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is the most common.

Dementia and Memory Community Centres

These community drop-in centres provide a range of information, support activities and social services to people with dementia as well as their carers and family. If you go along to one of these centres you should have access to experts on dementia, support groups, web-based information, chat rooms, library services, training sessions and workshops on memory, as well as activities such as art therapy, exercise and one-to-one counselling.
